Pregnancy Clinic
Care of the pregnant mother is available to all and free of charge (if insured in Iceland).
Lágmúli Health Care Center has a primary responsibility for those women who live in our neighbourhood.
Nurses who have specialized in pregnancy care and the doctors of the station will take care of problems that may arise. We also have a specialist who we can consult and some women are followed in a specialized centre at the hospital.
We work according to international protocols.
In you are pregnant we want to see you after 8-12 weeks after the last menstruation.
The first examination takes about an hour. During the pregnancy you will have to come for examinations and follow up about 7-10 times. The father or other support can come with you and older siblings to.
In week 20 of the pregnancy an ultrasound examination is recommended at the hospital at no cost to the parents.
At 12 weeks of pregnancy there is a possibility of doing a special examination with ultrasound which is intended to find out if there is an increased risk of certain types of malformations. A blood test is also analyzed. These tests cost extra. This issue should be covered in your first visit.
